Air dampers are used to isolate and regulate the flow of air and non-explosive air mixtures that do not contain fibrous materials, dust and other solid impurities in an amount exceeding 100 mg/m in the «open/closed» or smooth control mode in ventilation and air conditioning systems to prevent flow of radioactive air through air ducts when the ventilation system is stopped.

The channel blocking mechanism in air dampers is a louver-type shutter system.
